Why seek therapy?

Seeking therapy is a valuable and courageous decision, as it offers a safe space to understand your existence in a unique way, exploring the intra-subjective (psychic, emotional and behavioral structure) and inter-subjective (social and community context) fields. Therapy provides self-knowledge and personal transformation, helps in facing challenges and resolving conflicts, and promotes creative adjustment to deal with the demands of the world and existential suffering. Furthermore, it is an opportunity to develop strategies and skills to build an authentic and satisfying project and life.

I am a psychologist and psychotherapist, MSc., specialist in Existential Psychology. I offer online and in-person psychotherapeutic care for adults, couples, families and therapeutic groups. I currently work on the clinical staff at Casa de Saúde Saint Roman, a psychiatric inpatient and recovery clinic in Rio de Janeiro. I am an effective member of the Brazilian Psychological Society and the International Council of Psychologists.

My clinical approach involves phenomenological-existential psychology in Sartrean and Gestalt readings, phenomenological-Gestaltic psychopathology and the psychology of extremes which focuses on crises, traumas, conflicts and self-destructive processes.

I stand out for my transdisciplinary training with a diverse professional trajectory and a notable commitment to humanitarian causes, integrating exact sciences and strategic management with arts and philosophy to better understand and meet the needs of clients and institutions.

Therapeutic Approach

My therapeutic approach stands out for its emphasis on Phenomenology and Existential Psychology, integrating Sartrean Psychotherapy and Gestalt therapy. The phenomenological method is central, prioritizing the understanding of patients' experiences from their own perspective, promoting a more authentic and empathetic approach. Sartrean Existential Psychotherapy emphasizes responsibility for choices, authenticity and facing existential concerns, while Gestalt therapy focuses on immediate experience, fostering self-awareness and personal growth in the "here and now". This integrated approach seeks to offer a more individualized and meaningful therapeutic process. Foto preto e branco do psicologo Lucas Fagundes I take a unique view by combining these approaches, providing patients with an in-depth, personalized understanding of their mental and emotional health issues. The integration of Phenomenology, Sartrean Existential Psychotherapy and Gestalt therapy creates a therapeutic environment that values the uniqueness of each individual, contributing to a more effective treatment focused on the specific needs of each patient. This innovative approach stands out for promoting authenticity, responsibility and self-awareness as key elements of the therapeutic process. Foto preto e branco do psicologo Lucas Fagundes

Transdisciplinarity

Transdisciplinarity seeks synergies between different areas of knowledge. In the clinic, it allows a more integrated view of the human being, considering their physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs in a unified way. Some instruments and fields of study that are part of my repertoire are:

Mindfulness

The practice of mindfulness, or full attention, is a tool that seeks to teach patients to focus on the present, developing greater awareness of their thoughts and feelings, reducing stress and promoting emotional well-being.

Non-Violent Communication (NCV)

Is a technique used to improve interpersonal communication. It encourages clear, compassionate expression, helping patients build more harmonious relationships and resolve conflicts effectively and respectfully.

Schizoanalysis

Is a field of knowledge and practices, which, seeks to map the processes of desire and complex relationships between individuals. In a way that makes it possible to explore and visualize the social, emotional and political dynamics that influence the human experience, allowing a deeper understanding of the forces that shape people's lives.

Philosophy

is a field that studies human existence and knowledge. Philosophical thinking can be used for therapeutic purposes to help patients explore and find meaning in their life experiences, existential questions, and moral dilemmas.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer in-person sessions?

Yes, I offer in-person sessions in Rio de Janeiro at four locations: Instituto Epokhé in Ipanema, Casa da Fonte in Laranjeiras, Dois de Dezembro Office Tower in Largo do Machado, and Casa de Saúde Saint Roman in Santa Tereza.

How does therapy work for Brazilians in immigrant situations?

Therapy tailored for Brazilians living abroad aims to address the unique challenges and experiences of individuals in a cultural context different from their origin. Elements such as cultural adaptation, identity, homesickness, and managing potential conflicts and language barriers are explored. The therapy also considers the impact of the change on family and social relationships, as well as mental health. Additionally, it seeks to promote a profound understanding of how cultural differences influence the perception of the world, interpersonal relationships, and the construction of a new life abroad.

Do you offer sessions in other languages?

Yes. In addition to Portuguese, I also conduct sessions in English.

What therapeutic approach do you use?

I work in the third force of psychology, the Phenomenological-Existential approach, through a dialogue between Sartrean Psychotherapy and Gestalt Therapy.

How many sessions until I notice improvements?

In psychotherapy, we do not work with predetermined deadlines and goals. Existence is complex and singular in its historicity and subjectivity. Each individual comes to the clinic with different openness, motivation, and engagement in self-exploration and creative adjustment, making temporality relative.

What are the payment methods?

Payments can be made through PIX, bank transfer, check, boleto, or in cash, after each session or on a monthly package basis.

Do you accept insurance?

I accept the insurance plans accepted at the Ambulatory of Casa de Saúde Saint Roman. If you are interested in using this method, please contact me to inquire about the current accepted insurance plans.

How many sessions should I have per month?

Ideally, one session per week is recommended. In more severe cases, and based on the client's desire, 2 to 3 sessions per week can be arranged. As the client approaches the termination phase, sessions may be spaced out to bi-weekly and eventually monthly, until complete termination.

Can I have sessions via mobile phone?

Yes, you can. However, it is important to ensure a private space that preserves your intimacy and protects you from interruptions. Additionally, attention should be paid to the quality of the internet connection to avoid disruptions.
